This green space runs alongside Baydale Beck behind the Mowden Housing Estate. A linear green space 2 miles long is made up of two areas to the north Baydale Beck Open Space at 4.72 Ha and to the south Baydale Meadows at 5.59 Ha. For most of the route along the beck there is thick woodland to the east side of the path and some wetland habitat with open grassed areas before Mowden Housing Estate. The land is council owned and provides a useful wildlife corridor connecting the Cockerbeck Nature Reserve to the north and Broken Scarr to the South.
Access can be gained from Coniscliffe Road to the south and Staindrop Road to the North. New planting of trees and wildflower beds in the summer and a play area is provided as part of Baydale Open Space.
There is a free car park at Broken Scar, with a play and picnic area. From this location is the Baydale Beck pub and the Tees Cottage Pumping Station https://www.teescottage.co.uk/.
The south part of the walk passes Broken Scarr Treatment Work and settling pond much of it is disused with nature taking over.
